Spore is out, server problems, and other miscellania
Well, Spore is finally out!
Traffic has been crazy with the release of Spore… and it shows. EA isn’t the only one having server problems! Our server has buckled under the traffic from the last few days. Our apologies for the sporadic downtime, we’re working on having it fixed!
We’ve also seen more non-Spore-related images being uploaded lately… it’s a bit annoying, but I hope we manage to remove them fairly quickly. I don’t really want to make images need to be approved before they can be shown on the site. We’ll see how it goes.
I also desperately want to make some improvements, like adding user avatars, and making it a lot easier to comment on creatures - hopefully I’ll manage to get some time to do this soon.
That’s it for now, off to the store to pick up my copy of Spore!

I’d just like to be able to flag obvious photoshopped entries or like you said, non-spore related images. The photoshopped ones like http://www.bestsporecreature.com/memberpictures/968_pic1.jpg are a special case because people could potentially upvote them unknowingly.

“Our apologies for the sporadic downtime…”
I see what you did there. And as for an actual constructive post, I can only imagine this site getting bigger and bigger. Now the big question is this site going to be limited to just the creature’s (And would we include the cell stage as apart of this “creature” name) Or are there going to be separate arenas for vehicles/buildings/spaceships?

@Nate: good catch, I missed that one. I’m not that worried about, for example, photoshopped backgrounds, but I try to keep the images clean. Some sort of flagging method will probably become necessary (worst case scenario being completely inappropriate images).
@Xenoiaos: there will definitely be something for vehicles and buildings and stuff! I’m still thinking what the best way to do it is.
